I totally called BN and Original going and Thematic coming back. :D

… but electoral college? I did not see that coming. I wonder if people's votes got spread between the cyber security and the FDA rezes. Or if I just wasn't aware of the election law rez's popularity. :P

dude are you kidding me? Electoral reform is by far my favorite topic. There are tons of super interesting cases on everything you can think of -- how we campaign (finance reform), how we vote (voting machines), and how we win (electoral reform).

Black Mountain, NC is a beautiful place, but there isn't a club there to my knowledge. I wonder where exactly they're having the tournament. Maybe Montreat College?

So both resolutions were my absolute last choices. Kinda bummed, because I'm writing for COG, and federal election laws are going to be oppressively dull to research. Freedom of the press was the least interesting of the three LD choices, but still decent. All the LD choices were legit.

Looking forward to judging some after dinner speaking next year. Gonna be crazy.
And thank God they brought back Thematic. That was always a good category. Also, I'm glad Original is gone. Very interesting category with a lot of room for creativity, but there just wasn't enough interest.

First of all, everyone should come to the NC Open. It's gonna be great.

Thoughts on speech events:

I think it makes sense to take out BN, it is pretty narrow. I totally called this. However, I wouldn't mind it being rotated back in in a couple years.

Informative Speaking sounds like a rename of OO to me. Not a big deal. :?

Original leaving is ok(as long as its rotational)...but Thematic replacing it? Meh, not a fan.

I think ADS is ok... but the announcements at awards would sound kinda dumb...

"And now, taking first place in AFTER DINNER SPEAKING ....... " haha idk maybe it's just me.

Lucky. :P I really hope that I can go to that though. Opens are so much fun.

But I'm still hoping for a Nats in FL. Then I can go even if I don't break. :)

Are you kidding? We're going to have some boss teams in Region 8. Dean/McLeod is going on their 6th year, Lane/Lane is going to be sitting pretty with two of the best speakers in our region, those are just the first two that come to mind. :)

I would honestly be SHOCKED if nationals is in R8. They had it in R8 5 years ago at BJU, Then R9, Then R10(a northern trend)...then R5 and then R4. They'll most likely try for R6, 7, or 2.

With regard to Nationals, finding a suitable facility is the perennial concern for the national admin. If the facility happens to be in a region that has recently hosted Nationals, the NCFCA would have little choice but to use said facility if placed in dire straits in the way of hosting the tournament. Nationals at BJU would be nice though. ;)

What kind of facility besides BJU is in Region 8?

I haven't researched that, nor am I trying to prove that such a facility exists in Region 8. I was merely illustrating what the NCFCA considers as eminent concern when planning a National Event.

;)

I understand that, but I was just wondering if anyone is aware of any facilities such as that in Region 8. :)

Eh, I wouldn't expect to have nationals in Region 8 since we just had it there back in 2009. My bet is on Region 7 hosting.

But words cannot describe how happy I would be if it was in Region 2. <3
