We Qed 4 but I think Vector is only sending the Vector/NVCC hybrid team of Natalie Torbert/Chris Prevost. But Natalie just won VA mock trial championship, was in semis at a TP qualifier, and 2nd at two parli tournaments this year, and this was the year she was quitting debate or something like that. :P

It seems like this is a reoccurring theme in champion RIX debaters... ;)

I wish I could! But with mock trial nationals in Albuquerque and NCFCA nationals in St. Paul, I just can't swing a plane ticket.

I might be going. We got our roll-down invite like 15 minutes ago... so, we'll see if my partner can make it. :D
EDIT: I will be going, Lord willing. We're all registered and it's merely a matter of figuring out transportation and lodging.

Round 1 approximate rez phrasing (heard it once over the phone): when it comes to China, the U.S. would speak softly and carry a big stick

We (OPP) prepped DAs on carrying a big stick (brandishing conflict and being willing to follow through) and on speaking softly (avoiding diplomacy), plus a counterplan of a different trigger for conflict.

Round 2: thbt the war on drugs is the elephant in the room

I really tried to get Jane and Emily to run a case on pushing third world farmers (central America and Afghanistan) towards the legal opiates market and ending drug crop eradication... but they went with interpet as a fact rez and show war on drugs A. failed, B. isn't legal to begin with.

PITOC rezes:
R1: With regards to China, the US should speak softly and carry a big stick
R2: THBT the war on drugs is the elephant in the room
We were opp r1 against Hannah Smith/Jeremy Tjia (they ran sell F-16s to Taiwan), and gov r2 vs Heise/Pinero (we ran death toll, econ loss).

And Erin (90% sure, I didn't have a chance to talk to her, so this is based on photo recognition) watched us both rounds. Probably more for Smith/Tjia and Pinero/Heise's sake, though. ;)

I love having internet at tournaments. XD

That's what we ran. Along with DAs. :P It was pretty fun.

How do either of those points prove or disprove the res? I'm guessing that they're saying it's the elephant because we refuse to acknowledge it's failure and illegality?

And how can something that has troves of literature and tons of agencies and coalitions dedicated to it be the elephant in the eyes of the people offensively waging it?

Interp would be much better suited to someone either a) defensively waging it, or b) a third-party looking on.

I much prefer the drug farmer interp.

yeah I wanted the drug farmer interp

they went with 40 years of doing something that has only seen the problem get worse = govt has an elephant in the room

Round 3: As a general principle, individuals have an obligation to value the common good over their own interests

I'm not there... no clue.

Round 4: In a functioning democracy, civil obedience must trump personal conviction
