So...
Who's doing parli this year?
My partner Vanessa Waters and I tried it at the West Coast Classic in Eugene in October and we're completely hooked.
I know parli is getting pretty big in TX, but so far I haven't heard of a ton of interest in CA.

Just wanted to see who's doing it or even thinking about doing it.
Also, if you've tried it, what did/do you think of it? Love it? Hate it? Scorn it?

My partner and I are total novices in parli and don't really know much at all about it, but we're super excited to try it at some more tourneys.
Parli rocks. :D

I'm doing parli if I find a partner. :D

A lot of CO people are doing it, actually. We're not CA, of course, but I think parli's picking up popularity throughout Stoa; largely because it's better practice for debating in college, from what I've heard, although they're modifying it in CO "because we're dealing with high schoolers."
Personally I think if you're giving the kids the same time limits, you might as well give 'em all the other challenges and rules as well. We're able to figure it out; I mean, look at the behind the scenes complexity of TP or LD. :P All the same, CO rocks for doing parli in some form.

VA is doing some parli. We just had a tournament last weekend (qualified to Stoa). Vector, VA has a bunch of parli teams on the side, while another Fairfax club is solely doing parli (no other form of speech or debate). Some Harrisonburg peeps are planning to host a parli tournament, and we're crossing our fingers for Richmond's RADIX to get back into it.

There are a few people in our club [Veritas, CA] who seem to be pretty interested in it. The real issue is finding time to do it at tournaments.

Yeah, that was my issue with it too... And because of it, I probably won't be able to do more than 1 or 2 tournaments with it.
I thought it worked well at Highlands last year when they did it during outrounds, but then of course the people that break can't do it.
I also heard that Clash might be doing a separate parli tournament which would be awesome.
There's plenty of other theories, Like running it along with speech like we did at Eugene.
One thing I do know, is that it'll be different at every tournament.

Added bonus: Since I'm doing parli I get to drop impromptu. :D

Wait, don't you have to be 16 to do parli?

Not necessarily. The rules currently state that in order to do Parli, one must
(A) be 16 years old, OR
(B) have two years of debate experience, OR
(C) have coache's approval/consent for said debater to do Parli.

One only has to fulfill one of the criteria to be eligible, although if you are eligible in more than one then great. :)

I'm a Parli debater from Texas so I might as well weigh in.

Parli is huge in Texas, we have allot of tournaments, in fact we are hosting Parliamentary nationals (PITOC) April 25-26, 2012, in Colleyville, TX. You have to be among the top 30 teams in the country to qualify. I know allot of CA people are qualified for it (Looking forward to seeing you!). In fact Ethos is writing the resolutions for us this year! Our PITOC last year was in Little Rock.

BTW: Right after PITOC we are having a 2 day tournament in Irving that all the PITOC debaters are welcome to come to, as well as anyone else who has the desire.
