*revivesoldthread*

This is a fantastic thread idea which I and many others have benefited from. Can't believe it hasn't been posted in for almost two years. I think it would behoove the Parliamentarian community if we continued to update resolutions from each tournament. So, if any of you have resolutions from recent debate tournaments, by all means please post them here! :)

(Yes, I remembered this thread in preparation for tomorrow's Piece of Parli Pi tournament ;P)

This thread is a good idea. Here are resolutions from GA Southern Sizzler's tournament:

THB it should ban billboards.
THB it is better to play and lose then to sit and win.
THB in community over liberty.
Resolved: Governments should conduct DNA testing on arrested persons.

I absolutely love this one: THBT Walter Cronkite is dead.

How did gov ever win with this: When in conflict, intuition should be valued above reason.

If you interpret the conflict scenario well enough then there's certainly a lot of government. But none of them did that. So I'm not exactly sure how anyone won with it, but wound up being a 5-5 split between Opp and Gov losses. We were OPP and it was our one loss. So go figure.

I don't see how you can interpret it well without making it into a weird tangent. "When in conflict" doesn't seem to work when anyone can have an "intuition" ever.

Does anyone have any resolutions from any California tournaments? I'm curious as to if the res's there will be any different from the ones we've had elsewhere in the country.

It could be very entertaining if this was announced as the topic, especially for an outround.

It really bugs me that I can't remember it, cause it was such a great res. It was value, something to do with political correctness vs. freedom of speech.

Huh. These resolutions are interesting. Half of them seem to be standard and the other half seem be fairly creative, to say the least. I'm not sure how I feel about them. Does anyone know what club is going to be responsible for writing resolutions?

I believe there is going to a few alumni and local college coaches writing them. California is very heavy on the number of fact res's.

The more I mull them over in my head the more sense they seem to make. I'm guess I'm just more used to the Eastern norms (Texas, Tennessee, Florida, and Virginia) for what a rez is like. They're really not THAT different. Just not exactly what I'm used to. But whatever, they could be fun. Change sounds exciting, NITOC is scary, though.

I don't remember the precise wordings, but the topics were remove cannabis from the controlled substances list, restore the franchise to felons, that human rights concerns justified violating national sovereignty, aaaaaaaaaand ... a fourth. Maybe someone could help me out with the fourth. Since I judged all four, I feel a little bad about not remembering the fourth.

Finally remembered it! The nuclear nonproliferation treaty regime has done more harm than good.

This sounds like a nightmare to defend. ALL people? Like, every single human being on planet earth? How did Gov defend that?

If I were gov I would use an incredibly narrow definition of "exposed." Not too hard, since in this case the medical definition would probably be something like "came in contact with bodily fluids of someone showing symptoms."
