Alrighty, so my thoughts on the game.
There are a lot of really pathetic enemies in the Legend of Zelda, from the thousands of Octoroks and Stalchildren that you kill to the pathetic bosses that you shoot in the eye three times. At the same time there are a good number of incredibly powerful and hard to fight enemies in Zelda games. I was trying to capture this in a mafia game when I set this up. Strictly looking at the roles, this game was balanced against good the entire time with powers and the sheer numbers of evil people. It was my intention to have the evil side blunder about a bit and kill their allies because they didn't know who they were. (Note: Only Phillip, Andrew, and Shayne had a definite alliance laid out in their RPMs) Everyone else was in the dark. To my surprise, evil started to cooperate really well at the beginning of the game and it looked like the Links were going to be quickly defeated. However, Justin really stepped into the role of the savior Link and started to make some smart kills that earned plenty of rupees to float their revives for awhile. However, the tables flipped back when Marina died and lost a good portion of the good sides rupees which Vaati then used to almost eradicate the Links. It looked like the Links were once again going to be crushed, but at that crucial point the bumbling of the evil team that I had planned on taking place to balance the game happened. Slinky used his bomb and killed off two evils, Vaati killed two allies, and Justin finally got smart as to who Vaati was. Honestly, I probably had more fun than y'all just by watching all this play out.
Note: As the GM I made virtually no changes to this game while it was in progress to balance it out. I realized that with previous games I had been too heavy handed and hadn't left the game up to the players (as it should be). As such, I adopted the policy that I would change nothing on the spot with two exceptions: 1. Marina's resurrection: I had planned from the beginning that she would come back as Zelda, I just left the powers up to me based on when she died. 2. The maiming of Justin. I had planned to do something special for when the Last Link was eliminated, I just wasn't sure what. It seemed appropriate to not show his identity.
1. Justin: He played a brilliant game and pulled the wool over the evil side. He even convinced Andrew at one point (who had, in his RPM, Shayne confirmed as Gouen) that he was evil. His smart kills also saved the Links from elimination by collecting enough rupees.
2. Evan: He played a solid game all around and was quick to call out the massive imbalance of good to evil ratio.
3. Bee: She seemed crazy to everyone, but she really had her head in the game and saw through a lot of the haze that the Links were spreading.
I assume that some of you are curious, so here's one of the Link's (they were all the same)
Also, a special thank you to the mafia "alums" who came back for the game. Y'all really made it a special game for me. A big thank you also to everyone for playing! It was great to have such a large game! Also, a welcome and thank you to the several new players who played for the first time. Allow me to welcome and congratulate you on your first game. We hope to have you around for a long time.
