Thanks for working with us while we deal with new user registrations.

This is what we need you to do:

  1. Register!
  2. PM a member of the "The Family", preferably one that is online (you can find a list of them here)
  3. In your PM, tell them the following:
    • your age
    • if your parents are ok with you participating in Controversy Corner
    • any research clubs or other usergroups you are a member of
  4. Give the Welcoming Committee some time to catch up
  5. Enjoy the forum!

If you have any questions about how things work, feel free to post in the Q&A forum.

So here's a question or two. Because I'm just that curious.

When you register, why does it ask if you are/were homeschooled? I mean, yeah, it's called HSD, but I can think of a lot of discussions that we never would have had if some non-homeschooled people weren't here.

Also, what's with the welcoming committee stuff? Total curiosity, because I'm like that. Well, ok, I'm a snarky smartalec, but that's another story.

Can people not register if they don't select the homeschooled radio button?

That is relevant information, on the order of your "location". Your answer to the question has no bearing on any board functions.

The Welcoming Committee and the requirements posted for newly registered users (age, CC access, usergroups) is a way for us to make sure your permissions are set up properly to maximize your forum experience -- we don't want you unable to access features and areas that you should be able to, or vice versa.

1. Fresh start. The leadership likes to do it once in awhile.
2. We like the new software.
3. Due to mods, transferring the database was more trouble and risk than it was worth.
4. 'Cause we can.

Find the image you want. Upload it to a site like Flickr or photobucket.com. Take the URL they gave you and paste it into the avatar setting in your profile.

If you (or anyone else) needs more explanation, just PM me. :)

How can we tell if a specific member of the welcoming committee is online?

Thanks!

Our names are in green. If there are no green people at the bottom ("Who's online") then you can just PM one of us and we will read it when we log back in.

(Edit: we changed the name colors)

Is it necessary to contact said Welcoming Committee if we're a returning old user?

It is a good idea to contact "The Family" whether you are a returning user or not. One of the reasons for doing so is that we have a series of permission masks that grant you access to all the areas of the site to which you are supposed to have access, and contacting us allows us to check these settings and make sure they are set up properly in your case.

I did too . . . I think that you have access to everything unless you tell them you shouldn't have access to a certain area.

That is correct. We trust you to be honest about your age and the kinds of discussions your parents think are appropriate for you.
