I've never watched a SOTU before, but I felt like the speech was less about the State of the Union and more about what Obama envisions the Union as. It was a lot of ideas that he wants to put into practice but no explanation of how or why they would work.

And I felt that the Republican Response didn't have much noteworthy content. They basically said "we have better ideas" but didn't explain any of them and didn't address the President's speech very much.
