Analyze and respond to the statement: “At the center of the Christian tradition since the first church, there have been a number who insist that history is not tragic, hell is not forever, & love, in the end, wins & all will be reconciled to God.” -Rob Bell

Mr. Bell’s statement can be interpreted in two ways. One way is literal: he’s saying that since the beginning of Christianity, there are people who have insisted in these core beliefs. On the other hand, Mr. Bell is saying that these statements are therefore true. In my card, I respond to both of these, showing that while there were a number of people who have believed in this, these statements undermine true, orthodox Christianity, and those people are false teachers. So-called "traditions" do not necessarily lead to the truth.

What do you guys think about this card? Am I analyzing it correctly? What verses/quotes/intros are good for this card? I would appreciate your insight. Thanks! :D

i would say that you are indeed interpreting it correctly. Rob Bell is known for his universalism so it makes sense that you can read a little more into this quote than is explicitly stated.

If you read Erasing Hell by Francis Chan you will get a nice breakdown of what Bell believes on this issue as well as a refutation of it.

You should also read God Wins. Its a great response to Love Wins.
